Here we go, writing another blog post, making it go live, Tweeting it out, posting a status to Facebook
and telling our friends and family to please go read my post and comment on it. Does that sound familiar? Do you sometimes feel your social media and pet blogging efforts are like shouting into a crowded room? It sometimes feels like your voice just gets lost in the midst of all of the other social media "noise."
Here are 15 quick tips you can use to shake things up a bit and get you, your pet blog and your efforts noticed:
- Know where your readers gather and make that the hub of your social media efforts. Maybe your followers are more active on LinkedIn than they are on Facebook; if that's the case focus on LinkedIn.
- Create a press release announcing something you're involved in to help local pets
Create a press release that coincides with a particular holiday. For example: "Ways to keep your pet safe when the trick-or-treaters come knocking," or "Why Thanksgiving table scraps are not healthy for Fido or Fluffy."
Create an editorial calendar for your social media and blogging efforts. It makes your work so much easier
Make friends with automation. If you don't have time to blog or post social media updates daily take advantage of the calendar function in your blog platform, use a post scheduler for your social media such as HootSuite.
Build relationships. Whether you sell a product or a service, make friends with your customers. Connect. Interact. Thank them.
Blog about heroes in the pet industry. Is there a local shelter that is in need of help? Is there a volunteer that should be honored? Blog about it/them. Send a press release.
Make certain you're using the correct SEO (search engine optimization) for your blogging efforts. If you're a cat blogger, don't use a lot of dog terms in your tags and categories (a very basic example). If you want to be known as the "number one pet groomer in Smalltown, USA" make sure you can logically work those terms into your posts.
Step out from behind the keyboard and be social in person. Attend networking events like BlogPaws 2014. Shake some hands. Meet people face-to-face.
Don't take the weekends off. Again, this is where a post scheduler comes in handy. If you have time during the week to blog then make certain you schedule a blog post for the weekend as well. Your readers are still on the internet on the weekends.
Become a great taker of photos. Photography and the photos you post on your blog and social media pages will likely gain you more attention than will a post that has no photo. People love pics of cute pets!
Update your website occasionally. Reword your bio. Upload a new picture. Make certain the SEO terms on your site are still relevant today. For example, if you started out as a "cat blogger" but are now a "guinea pig blogger" make certain your site reflects that.
Along with number 12, is … update your social media profiles. Make certain you have good, searchable "headlines" in your social media profiles.
Track your social media stats. If you're writing blog posts or social media updates that are garnering a lot of attention then by all means replicate that success and do more. If you're writing posts and updates that are not gaining a single look, then you need to revamp your strategies.
