Top 10 Tips On How To Get Motivated

Top 10 Tips To Get Motivated To Write in Your BlogIf you’re like me, you need some motivation now and then. Motivation to write your blog, that is. It can be daunting to try and think up new content every day, or even every other day. And, even when you use a lot of great pictures, you have to write posts in between, if you want Google to “friend” you.

The lack of ideas on blog writing is pretty common across the board. No matter what kind of blog you write, you are bound to run out of ideas now and then. Or, if you have ideas, you just can’t convince yourself to put fingers to the keyboard and compose them.

I thought I’d share a Top 10 Tips on How To Get Motivated – and excited – about writing your blog – even when you’re just feeling blah-blah-blah.

1. Read a book for a half an hour. Seriously. It doesn’t have to be a new book. You can re-read an old book and get new ideas and new inspiration. Dr. Seuss is good.

2. Call your mother. Ask her a compelling question; “Mom, how old was I when I started eating solid food? Was potty trained? Learned my ABCs?” Something like that. Your conversation will spark nostalgia and probably give you great blog content.

3. Create a slogan or mantra for yourself. I got this one from Sid Savara’s blog. Think of it like this – if you say you’re “a cat whisperer” or “a dog’s best friend” or something like that, and you consider that as such (whatever your slogan) you need to accomplish daily tasks, you’ll be motivated to write. Even if it’s just to change your slogan!

4. Ask a friend if you can help them write their blog. Not a guest post, although that’s okay.  More like a brainstorm session. Share thoughts and ideas and I bet you get excited about writing in your blog, too.

5. Choose a topic that is close to your heart. Write about your favorite shelter or rescue program. Support a good cause – pet related or not. Even pet blogs can support other non-profits sometimes!

6. Reward yourself with a delicious prize (to be eaten AFTER you write your post). For me, that would be a creme-filled, chocolate donut. Which means I better not need motivation very often!

7. This Freelance site says to “work on a different or personal project…” I would cook. I find that when I’m in the kitchen, away from the computer, I begin to relax and think about everything a little differently. Often, I rush back down to my desk and make notes…so when I’m done cooking, I can blog.

8. Contemplate… a philospher. Here are some quotes to get you started, “Nothing happens unless first we dream. ~Carl Sandburg” And, “Goals are the fuel in the furnace of achievement. ~Brian Tracy” Plus, my favorite, “Though no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending. ~Unknown”

9. Visit Seth Godin’s blog and borrow some of his ideas. Actually, you can borrow ideas from anyone you like, as long as you cite the blog and post and NEVER take all the content.

10. Create a Top 10 Tips List. Worked for me!

  2. What I personally do is keep a list of things that I want to comment on at some point. Gee, it’s a big list! But it means I haven’t run out of ideas yet (that being said, my blog is fairly new so I’ll be sure to keep this post in mind for future writers block).

  3. Hahaha! Lists are totally my go-to when I am stumped. I try not to do that too much because I am sure it would get annoying.
