Lesson from the Spooky Buddies screening at BlogPaws: Pet-Friendly Theaters?

By Tom Collins

SpookyBuddies-characters Chazz' Mom's fun review of the Disney Spooky Buddies screening at BlogPaws brought back how cool I thought it was having so many of our 4-footed "buddies" in the audience with us. To me, it seemed like much of the live barking and resulting laughter was right on cue and in reaction to the dog action on the screen.

Spooky Buddies is going straight to DVD, so we can have that same experience watching it at home with our "kids" (no age or species limitations)! ;-D (The DVD/Blu-Ray release is next week, but you can order it from Amazon now – affiliate link.)

But that got me thinking, maybe Disney should use its clout in the industry to get theaters to have pet-friendly screen times for movies like this.

Hey, if hotels can do it — and have fun with it, from all we're hearing! — why not theaters?

Might it help save that slice of the industry? What do you think?

  1. brilliant idea! And not just for pet related movies but any movie. People just like to hang with their dogs no matter where it is. Now to get them to bring me a beer while watching movie…

  2. @Barbara – As I wrote on FB, I’ve never stopped enjoying “kids” movies, so I was happy to read your review with a similar reaction.
@Laura – Hmmm … do we have a certain French Canadian brew in mind? That might REALLY help save the local theater industry! ;-D

  3. I’ve attended outdoor movie screenings with my dogs and loved it. I think it’s a great idea to have a special screening for dogs and their people.
Now that you know a movie director, maybe you can use some of your clout to set it up. 🙂
