13 Social Media Content Ideas That Sizzle

A frequently asked question in the BlogPaws sphere is “what can I post on social media that will get me noticed?” As an influencer in the online space, the way you grow an account is to be certain you show your account to the proper demographic/audience/reader base.

Making sure your blog’s content is current and relatable to your readers is important, but so is making sure the social media content that complements the blog post is:

  • Fresh
  • Engaging
  • Not duplicated
  • Authentic
  • Thought provoking or solves a problem

Whew, that’s a lot, but it isn’t as difficult as you would imagine. Using these tips consistently and with planned content, your followers are more likely to engage, comment, like, share, re-tweet, and become your content sharers:

Social Media Tips for Bloggers

Facebook

Make Videos: Take your blog post and promote it with a one-minute video that you directly upload to Facebook. Keep it short and sweet. INSIDER TIP: I keep a sticky note of bullet points next to me as cues for video talking points.

Solve Problems: Simple solutions to everyday problems: Does your post solve a problem? Hint about it on Facebook and complement the post with a picture that matches the tease. Lead readers to your blog post. The goal is to get them to click.

Ripped From the Headlines: Ask your followers to weigh in on a hot topic — as long as it complements your blog/social media purpose. Use caution, as there is a wrong and a right way to weigh in on controversy.

Be a Social Giver: Don’t be the guy or gal at the party who talks all about themselves and leaves no room for others to pop in and say something. Put the ‘social’ in social media. Share posts from others. Be consistent and authentic.

Ask for Advice: Even if you know the answer, ask for advice. Great ideas for future topics come from social media Q&A. Track replies in a planner like Trello.

Share a Stat: Stats are often attention grabbers depending on how you present it and what the accompanying visual is. Be authentic and be credible: Link to a blog post where the data source is presented. Credible inbound links can be a valuable blog traffic driver.

Hint One of Ten: Create a top ten list on your blog, give one away on Facebook, and link back to the post with a catchy call to action. (Example: Want more? Don’t miss the other 9 tips to train cats not to scratch the couch)

Social media tips

Twitter

Be a Resource: Many people get their news from Twitter. If your specialty is small animals, showcase your expertise with current news and trends in that microniche.

Create Hashtag Lists: It’s no surprise that hashtags dominate on Twitter, so in addition to any curated Tweeps lists you have, create lists for hashtags within and outside your niche. Start infusing those that create buzz, engage followers, and apply to your social media mission.

Be Pinnable on Twitter: On Facebook, you can pin an update to the top of your wall, and the same holds true on Twitter. Pin your latest blog post there.

Be at #BlogPawsChat on Tuesday Nights: Every Tuesday nights (except the third Tuesday of each month), BlogPaws hosts a chat on Twitter. We are often asked what the best way to engage folks on Twitter is: New followers and familiar faces join in each week for a topic. Follow everyone who is there, say hello, be social, and watch for the tweets from BlogPaws. The sheer volume of bloggable material that comes out of a #BlogPawsChat is worth the time spent.

Make a Blog Post Embedded with Tweets: Yours and that of others. A unique way to increase the visibility of your tweets is to take them, grab the embed code, and place them into blog posts.  For example, “8 Ways to Keep Older Cats Feeling Young,” and embed some of your own tweets and those of other pros.
