Wordless Wednesday Blog Hop: Check the Chip Day
For this week’s Wordless Wednesday blog hop, the focus is on pet safety. National Check the Chip Day is on Monday, August 15th. This is a good time for all pet parents and pet bloggers to remind pet parents to check the information on their pet’s microchip. The American Veterinary Medical Association says, “Microchips greatly increase the chances that pets will be reuinted with their families if they are lost or stolen…but a microchip only works if its registration information is accurate.”
How To Check a Microchip’s Information
You will need your pet’s microchip number. Just because your pet has a microchip does not mean it was registered. It also does not mean the information is current. Have you changed cell phone numbers? Moved? These are things to ensure they are current. The AVMA says, “There are many databases that allow you to register your pet’s microchip, but the one that really counts – the one that animal shelters and veterinarians will search – is the database maintained by the manufacturer of your pet’s microchip. AAHA’s Universal Pet Microchip Lookup Tool is linked to the registries of the majority of microchip manufacturers and allows a quick database search of any microchip made by these manufacturers. In addition, a number of public microchip registries have also been linked to the AAHA Universal Pet Microchip Lookup Tool to make it easier to find a microchip’s registration. ”
