The Easy Way to Write a Blog Post Quickly
Is there a secret recipe for an easy way to quickly write a blog post? Yes, and no. As with baking a cake, there are steps to follow, but you do need to know your audience and mix the ingredients accordingly.
Here is my methodology to write a blog post quickly:
- Choose a simple blog post structure: a list post, a how-to, a Q & A.
- Write a killer headline.
- Gather your topic information and write your subheads. Jot down a sentence or two to support the tips you’re sharing.
- Inspire your reader to action with your closing paragraph. Don’t use the closing paragraph as a wrap-up or recap of what they’ve just read. Inspire them to action.
- Craft the introductory paragraph. Some writers write the intro first; others write the intro after they’ve written the entire post because by then they have a better handle on the flow of the piece.
Virtually any post you write can follow the recipe given above. Writing a how-to or a list post is a fast and easy way to get a blog post written.
My best practice tip for quickly writing a blog post is to brainstorm your ideas (and put them on your editorial calendar) and outline your posts prior to sitting down and writing them.
Give yourself a time frame for completing a blog post. Parkinson’s Law states that: “Work expands to fill the time allotted for it.” This means if you give yourself an hour to write a post, it will take an hour. If you give yourself three hours to write that same post, it will take you three hours. Time-block your writing wisely.
- Bust a myth
- Inspire them to action
- Turn a long-held belief on its head and make your readers really think
- Offer how-tos they can easily replicate
- Be factual
Blogging truths
Regardless of how long it takes you to write your blog post, you need to always provide thought-provoking and inspiring content. Your reader will never know how long it took you to write a post so he or she will not judge if they read a post they love, but find out it took you only an hour to write.
