Blog Spring Cleaning: Submit It For Honest, Kind, Constructive Feedback

Gust post by Kimberly Gauthier, Keep the Tail Wagging

Welcome to Week 1 of our Spring Cleaning event!  It’s so easy to become complacent as a blogger, because we spend most of our time writing blog content and on social networking sites.  When was the last time you took an unbiased assessment of your blog – the design, the content, or your goals?

the dog lies on the beige carpet and looks at vacuum cleanerLast week, I asked my friends to visit my blog and share what they thought my blog is about in three words.  The point of this favor was to get an idea of the impression I give to those who are new to my blog.  If they’re visiting to learn more about the raw food diet, is it clear that I write about that topic?

This week, we’re going to put on our “Brave Hats” and ask for honest (gentle) feedback on our blogs.  Here are some guidelines for all of us to follow:

Bloggers seeking feedback:

  • Don’t take it personally – I know this is tough, because our blogs are very personal, but we’re here to improve so take a step back and really think about the feedback you’re receiving.
  • Ask your followers – you can create a survey (Survey Monkey is free), you can ask a question on your Facebook page, or you can reach out to friends and/or fellow bloggers you trust to give you helpful feedback.
  • Consider before making changes – it may be tempting to go to your blog and make a ton of changes after receiving feedback – cleaning house is refreshing.  Before changing your blog, take the time to consider what was shared to make sure that it is in line with your blogging goals.

Bloggers sharing feedback:

  • Be gentle and honest – for many of us, it can be difficult to receive feedback; it can feel like criticism, so please be gentle and honest.
  • Don’t apologize – it’s tempting to apologize all the way through a critique, but don’t.  This is a good thing so let’s celebrate our courage in submitting our blogs AND offering feedback.

If you would like honest (and gentle) feedback of your blog, please add the URL and email address in the comments below.  For those of you who are taking the time to help your fellow bloggers, please contact them privately through their email address with your thoughts.

If you have any questions or ideas, definitely reach out to the BlogPaws community so we can all learn together.

Happy Spring Cleaning!

Stay tuned because next week we look at improving your site’s SEO.
