Shelter Appreciation Week Shelter Drive-by Winner!

Btc_Color-Small-2010In case you missed it, over on the BlogPaws Be the Change for Pets blog we hosted a blog hop for Shelter Appreciation Week. The goal was to encourage everyone to do one small thing for a local shelter in what Dr. V (Pawcurious) calls a Shelter Drive-by program. The program was her idea and we enjoyed supporting her with it. We had some wonderful entries and next year we hope to have more – especially since there are a few prizes involved.

First, BlogPaws pledged to donate $1000 to Rescue Ink whose shelter was hit hard by hurricane Sandy – "bruised, but not broken" is what they say about it. BlogPaws also agreed to use random.org to choose one of the blog hop entrants to receive a $1000 donation to the shelter that they blogged about. AND, since this program was part of supporting Iams Home 4 the Holidays, Iams agreed to feature one of the blog posts on their Facebook page. All of these prizes were
IamsH4THsupposed to be awarded if we got 100 people to join in on the blog hop. We did not achieve that goal, but both Iams and BlogPaws are honoring their prizes, and we've made some notes on how to make Shelter Appreciation Week bigger and better next year.

Freckles WinnerSo, without further adieu, the winner of the $1000 donation and a feature on Iams Facebook page is…..drum roll……A Day in the Life of Goose!!! The human behind the blog, Dominique, and Freckles, pictured at the right, choose the Ocean County Animal Facility South as their Shelter Drive-by shelter and their $1000 recipient. They had this to say about winning:

"Volunteering, fundraising,
and bringing awareness to animals in need has been in my heart since I was
rescued by a wonderful group and then adopted as a small pup! Which
is why I am ecstatic to hear that Ocean County Animal Facility South was chosen
to receive BlogPaws generous donation of $1000!

"When
Hurricane Sandy hit the Eastern shore, Ocean County Animal Facility South was
there to provide pet food to those who had lost everything, donating their own
supplies to other rescues and Churches, and will soon be taking in some of
the remaining Sandy pets from temporary shelters that are closing.

"I
know that this money will be put to amazing use and that there will be many
dogs and cats incredibly happy over the Holiday Season because of it! I can't
think of a more deserving animal shelter and am incredibly happy to be involved
in them winning this wonderful prize!"

Congratulations to Freckles and Dominique and to the Ocean County Animal Facility South. And thank you to everyone who entered the blog hop. Watch the BlogPaws Be the Change for Pets Facebook page and Twitter feed, we'll be featuring everyone who did a Shelter Drive-by sometime this month. Every single one of you made a difference, and we know so many more of you do the same each and every day. The online pet community is one that BlogPaws is very proud to be a part of.
