After Tragedy Strikes: Blog, Rescue, and Rescue Cats Give Back
In her Be the Change for Pets: BlogPaws session, Robin Olsen will be the speaker on Thursday, May 16, for "After Tragedy Strikes: How a Blog, a Rescue Group & 15 Cats Helped Heal Hearts in Sandy Hook, Connecticut." We sat down with Robin to ask her what attendees can expect during her session. Here's what we found out:

what will you be speaking about at BlogPaws?
Robin: After Tragedy Strikes: How a Blog, a Rescue
Group & 15 Cats Helped Heal Hearts in Sandy Hook, CT: It's about
storytelling, leveraging a blog and online community and a love of cats, to
create a buzz about a special program for the kids in Newtown, CT. It's also
about working with the press, trusting your instincts and being a better
blogger.
BlogPaws: What do you hope
people gain/learn by attending your session
Robin: That
you have the power to truly change the world through your Blog if
you focus on a heartfelt, honest message, tell a
compelling story and build a strong online community to support your
efforts. Why building an online
community is a key factor in your blog's success. How to work with the Press
and what to expect. What if your crazy idea
works? Then what?
BlogPaws: What is your favorite aspect of attending
BlogPaws/what do you most anticipate as an attendee?
Robin: I love catching up with my
Cat-Lady friends and making new friends!
BlogPaws: Do you have pets and if so, their
names/ages/types, etc (don’t forget photos):
Robin: You're kidding, right? I have
8 cats and 6 foster cats right now!
Okay here goes: Spencer -13 years old,
Norwegian Forest Cat. He’s da boss man, the Prince of Pouff and mascot
of CoveredinCatHair.com
Nick
& Nora – 12 years old, DSH littermates - large and in charge, rarely
apart. Sofa-hogs.
Gracie
& Petunia – 13 and 12 years old, respectively, mother & daughter,
Silver/Blue DLH/Persian and DSH. Nervous nellies who just want
to be loved.
Blitzen
– 2 years old, Buff & White Tabby Maine Coon Mix.
Cricket
– 9 years old, Black DSH with white spot on heart. A former feral- now a
total love-muffin. Cricket was mu first attempt to socialize
a feral cat who was supposed to only be skittish-not one who wanted to rip
your face off.
Doodlebug
– 2 Years old! Happy Birthday! Goes by: the DOOD. Black & White Tux
Maine Coon Mix. Master of Mayhem. Has his own Facebook fan page: https://www.facebook.com/HisRoyalDOODness
Bronte:
6 Years old, DSH Brown Tabby. She's our feral kitty who lives outside or
in our screen porch. We love her pretty green eyes
and sweet face.

BlogPaws: Just for fun, what is something about you
people would be surprised to learn?
Robin: I had my 15 minutes of fame
as part of a comedy/storytelling night at the Gotham Comedy Club in NYC last
year.
BlogPaws: What is one website you visit at least once daily?
Robin: http://www.intellicast.com/ I'm a
weather spotter for the NWS and I also am fascinated by the number of earthquakes there are around
the world every day. Yeah, I'm a nerd.
BlogPaws: What is a favorite blog or blogger you follow regularly?
Robin: I'm going to get in trouble
for this, but one of my friends is an amazing writer. She adopted a kitten from us earlier this year and
she writes about him and her other cats in the most creative, high-spirited
way. Her stories range from cats
to things she notices in her daily life in Boston, to art, culture, books and
more and her photography is
excellent. She wants to keep on the
"down low" so I won't say her name, but I will say her blog is a
