Do you blog for the locals?
Guest post by Blog Manager Robbi Hess
While it's true that your blogging can — and will — be read by people from all around the world, have you ever considered blogging for the locals? If you're a pet blogger, chances are there is an animal shelter or rescue group in your area. There are probably even "meet ups" for people who love Poodles, Pugs, or Pomeranians, right? Are there agility groups that come to your neck of the woods? How about a dog or cat show? Who's writing about it? No one? Well, there's your niche!
If you've ever worked at a newspaper you can become a bit of a celebrity with the stories that you cover and the same goes for your blogging about local pet happenings. Do a Google search for animal-related events in your area — choose a 50 mile radius — then start making contacts. Send some emails, introduce yourself, send links to your blog, let them know that you're the go-to personal for all things animal!
From the small events to the large, you will have fodder for your blogging, make contacts within your local community which can then help you spread your influence to the larger pet community. Starting small, especially if you're just starting out as a blogger, is a fantastic way to build a reputation and grow your readership!
What a great idea about blogging locally. We have a company who manufacture herbal health products for cats and dogs and it’s always great to get new ideas on how to promote. cheers Jackie
Actually I do it quite often. I am connected with a local Pet PR person here in Michigan who is also the owner/founder of the low cost spaying neuter directory (Nooter’s Club) we connected after she found my blog and we have also become good friends. I frequently donate food/toys etc to her to give out to the shelters that she represents.
She sends me press releases ahead of time on adoptions and events.
I am also connected with the Cat Show people.
Robbi people should definitely try out your ideas if they haven’t already!
Thanks Jackie and Caren for writing; and Caren you seem a perfect example of what I was writing about!
Fab idea! There doesn’t seem to be that many animal bloggers in the UK. My blog is ALL about dogs, my website is http://jackscabana@blogspot.com and http://jackscabana.co.uk where we manufacture luxurious dog furniture like nothing you have seen before. We are also on twitter, flike, Lindedin and of course, Facebooka dn Youtube. Ciao for now x
Yes, Pawsitively Texas is focused on celebrating Texas pets and advocating for those in need – throughout Texas. My local is somewhat big by covering the entire state … and it’s interesting to see how many people from other US states follow/support our work. I hope more bloggers will help get the word out about shelter pets in need of adoption – far too many healthy, adoptable pets are killed each week – and far too many people have no idea. Thanks for this post, Robbi!
