Pet Bloggers: Get The Media To Notice You
Post by Blog Manager, Robbi Hess
This was a BlogPaws Cares & Shares Hangout that was near and dear to my heart. As a “recovering journalist” I was on the receiving end of individuals pitching me stories. Unfortunately, for every story idea I accepted, I probably rejected ten times as many. Why? Because the individuals pitching were so close and immersed to their topic that they didn’t look at the larger picture which, for the media is, “What’s it in for our readers, listeners, viewers?” If you can’t find a way to make your pitch relevant to a large audience, it may not get covered.
Listen in as BlogPaws Conference speakers, Harrison Forbes, Nickey Rautenberg, Sandy Robins and Christie Zizo share how you, too, could go from blogging beginner to blogging superstar!
Here are some takeaways from the Hangout:
- Pick up the phone and call the editor or news desk
- Make sure you have a story that is newsworthy
- If your rescue or organization is having an event, pitch a preview story. If it’s a short 20-second filler, you just might hear it on the radio or television or read it in your local paper
- Look to your smaller, local markets for your news story
- Don’t pitch just to say you have pitched. Editors and news directors are busy and if you can’t package your pitch (offer photos, video, etc.) well it may get passed over.
There are still some tickets left to the Conference but we are on the verge of being sold out. Register here today. Read here about our speaker lineup.
