Animals Rescued From A Puppy Mill Taken In By AWLA

According  to a press release, the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria (AWLA),  an Emergency Placement Partner for the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) has taken in ten dogs and four rabbits that were part of 180 animals rescued from a puppy mill in Arkansas in February. In its role, AWLA offers shelter, care and placement of animals that HSUS rescues through its cruelty investigations throughout the country. You can read the story about the rescue at the Humane Society website.

The release states that, “Based on the overcrowded and filthy situation these animals were rescued from, the AWLA is expecting that the animals will be under socialized and fearful and will need medical care for issues such as heartworm and dental disease.  The dogs are primarily small breed dogs that are typically seen in puppy mill situations.”

It’s anticipated that these dogs will be placed with temporary foster families to help them acclimate to normal, family life and to begin to recover from the neglect they have suffered, Dalia Salah, AWLA Foster Coordinator was quoted as saying.

Temporary foster homes are being sought. Anyone interested can contact the AWLA and Dalia at dsalah@alexandriaanimals.org.

Background: These animals are among the many that the AWLA helps each year.  The AWLA’s annual fundraiser, Mardi Growl, is on April 2nd and is a great way to help support AWLA’s work.  For information, go to www.alexandriaanimals.org/mardigrowl.
